In the long distance past, some 10 000 years ago, people still lived in the forest. Amongst them were wise men and women who realised that much was to be gained from careful observation of nature. It held all the secrets of health and wellbeing. The wise people became known as the rishis, a special resource for the community, which provided the rishis with the necessities of life in exchange for their guidance and healing services.

From the animals the rishis learned yoga - a way of maximizing the body's resources, contacting the soul and staying focused in the moment. Their observations of the unseen forces of nature were expressed in poems of extraordinary beauty and with a stroke of pure genius they developed a methodology of passing these on without error from generation to generation. These were the Veda Samhitas - the wisdom collections.

Over time many commentaries and explanations of the Vedas were written - the Brahmanas, the Aranyakas and the Upanishads and to this day this body of literature forms the core of the astonishing Indian civilization.

From it came not only yoga and philosophy, but also the arts of warfare, medicine, architecture and music. The science of observing the stars in the universe was brought to a great height and with it mathematics. Perhaps the greatest gift they brought into being was Sanskrit, a most sophisticated language that has lasted for thousands of years forming a sturdy bridge across the ages.

We are an organization dedicated to providing quality education about the work of the Rishis, particularly in the fields of yoga and Ayurveda. We are currently teaching an 18-month course on Ayurveda which meets once a month in Newport RI.

Our course is based on the first ten chapters of the Ashtanga Hridaya, one of the three great classics of Ayurveda that forms a synthesis between the surgical and internal medicine traditions.

We also provide consultancy services to individuals and have a panchakarma clinic where clients can undergo the traditional rejuvanative cleansing procedures, which are can help people with deep seated, long term chronic debilities.
